REGION/COUNTRY - BAROSSA VALLEY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA
2001 GIBSONS BAROSSAVALE Shiraz
Dark and concentrated this balances the power of ripe Barossa fruit with a refined edge, an iron fist in a velvet glove delivery, so to speak. The nose is lifted, with a floral component which gives way to whiffs of black pepper and then sweeter notes of vanilla, cedar and chocolate all backed with ripe blackberry fruits aromatically. The palate brings on full throttle fruit intensity offering blackberry and dark plum flavors which are punctuated with notes of black pepper, spice, licorice, vanilla and chocolate/mocha. Showing excellent concentration without losing focus or balance, the tannins are ripe and fine grained. This is a very serious wine that brings a lot of bang for the buck to the package and although showing well now will reward those with patience for another 6-8 years with ease.
