In perfect condition and in wicker!

From the web: Chianti, situated in Tuscany in Central Italy, is home to probably the best-known and most iconic of Italian wines in the world. Although a wine of ancient origin, Chianti has only been recognized by its geographical area since the Middle Ages, when the zone was demarcated by Cosimo Medici III in the early 18th Century. The wine’s defining character later came about under the craftsmanship of Barone Ricasoli in the late 19th Century. Back then it was made using a wide range of local varieties, including white grapes which served as the basis of the Chianti DOC.

However, its success as a DOC wine took a fall in the 1970s, as many producers created their wines outside this classification's rules, producing them as a Vino da Tavola, to enable the winemaker to make pure Sangiovese reds, or add a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. This had a knock on effect on the whole classification system and in order for this system to overcome this disarray, a new designation was brought into existence under the guise of IGT, to make way for a new ‘trend’ of wine, which allowed the different kinds of blends or varietals that wer more ...

Tuscany DOCG wine region
The Tuscany wine region of central Italy is home to some of the world's most famous and highly regarded wines. It ranks slightly behind Piedmont and Veneto in terms of the volume and variety of DOC and DOCG wine it produces, and yet, due to the region's history of artistic, intellectual and cultural development, it outstrips both of these wine powerhouses in terms of global renown. Few could fail to identify Tuscany's rolling, cypress-lined hills capped with historic villages of tiled terracotta houses. The image is powerful and lasting, as is the impression left by such names as Chianti, Carmignano, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino – all Tuscan DOCGs.

Although a red-wine specialist, Tuscany has among its DOCGs Vernaccia di San Gimignano - the very first wine to be enlisted as a DOC when Italy introduced its new classification system in 1966.

Chianti was among the first red wine DOCs in Italy, created just after Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. In 1984 it was divided into two distinct appellations, Chianti and Chianti Classico, both of which were subsequently promoted into the rank of Tuscany's DOCGs. Alongside these two famous names are made the lesser-known reds Morellino di Scansano, Carmignano and the sweet Elba Aleatico Passito.

According to the local wine laws, Chianti and Chianti Classico wines can have up to 30% of other grape varieties, other than the local favorite Sangiovese. The most common of these are Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah
