GLENGOYNE 21yo Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Sherry Finish

The Highland Line, which notionally divided Highland from Lowland Scotland runs through the Glengoyne distillery grounds making it the southernmost Highland Malt Scotch Whisky. The distillery is further distinguished by the fact that it uses only specially selected unpeated malted barley i.e. barley which is malted using air from a natural fire and not a peat fire. This method ensures that the other elements of the Whisky - the water, ripened barley and the sherry cask - are allowed to express themselves more fully.

Introduced in April 2007, Glengoyne 21 year old achieves the optimum balance of flavours and the maximum benefits of first fill European Oak Sherry casks while retaining a price remarkable for a whisky of this quality and age. 43% Alc./Vol.

Tasting note: Deep golden brown colour with pale golden hue, showing strong Sherry oak influence. At bottle strength the nose is an absolute delight. Aromas of dried mixed peel, sweet spice, golden syrup, oats, and a hint of leather, delivered with a moderate nose prickle. The addition of a small amount of water at room temperature exposes a rich Christmas pudding like character, strong mixed peel, sweet spice, raisin toast, then more rolled oats. The palate entry is full and rich, without a hint of the dreaded rubberiness of some heavily Sherried whiskies. Superb mouthfilling flavours that reflect the nose to perfection. Exceptionally long, clean aftertaste of raisin toast, nuts and mixed peel. A thrilling whisky from start to finish. Distinguished and remarkably well priced given it's age and quality.

Other reviews...
Heavy, nutty, oily, slightly sweaty and not entirely faultless. Few whiskies will match this for its bitter sweet depth which is purely textbook. Glengoyne as few will have seen it before.

Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
‘The Real Taste of Malt’

Remarkably smooth creamy finish with a very delicate touch of sherry. A lovely, complex, sophisticated malt Michael Jackson (Whisky Expert), Whisky Magazine

Glengoyne has won a host of prestigious awards from all around the world including Whisky Magazine 'Best of the Best' and Golds and Double Golds at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the International Spirits Challenge
A premium quality single malt whisky which has been produced at the Glengoyne distillery in the Highlands of Scotland since 1833

‘The authentic taste of malt whisky untainted by peat smoke’. Unlike most other single malt whiskies Glengoyne dries its malted barley using only warm air as opposed to pungent peat smoke.
This results in a subtle, complex whisky in which all the delicate flavours are freely allowed to express themselves 'The real taste of malt'
Glengoyne is a clear bright, exceptionally smooth malt whisky characterised by hints of oak and apple with a long, clean finish

Glengoyne is handcrafted at "Scotland’s most beautiful distillery", situated in a wooded valley close to a small river that flows into Loch Lomond
The distillery takes its name from ‘Glen Guin’ or Glen of the Wild Geese
Its southerly position ensures a milder climate that also contributes towards Glengoyne's smooth and lighter taste

Glengoyne invests heavily in a very strict wood policy that demands the careful selection of the highest quality Spanish and American oak casks
The distillation at Glengoyne is the slowest in Scotland. The spirit flows from the stills at half the average rate, this allows the stillman to capture only the very best distillate.
